Ingredients
for the dal
1/2 cup arhar/tuvar dal, washed well and soaked for 1/2 hour in water
750 ml water
1 tomato, chopped
1.25 tsp/to taste salt
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1/2 tsp garam masala

for the tadka/tempering for the dal
2 tbsp desi ghee/clarified butter
1/2 tsp rai/mustard seeds
1/2 tsp jeera/ cumin seeds
1 medium-sized, chopped, onion
5=6 garlic cloves, ground
2 whole red chillies
12-15 curry leaves
1 tsp deghi mirch/red chilli powder
1 tsp coriander powder

for the rice
1 cup rice, soaked in water for 15 minutes and the water drained out
2 cups water
1 tsp salt
1 tsp oil
1-2 tsp chopped hara dhania/cilantro
